Winterslow School is very proud of its'
sporting achievements. Each year, we take part in many sporting
fixtures as well as having qualified instructors visiting the school.
Among our sporting activities are:
Football
Football is a strong
feature at Winterslow. So far this year amazing Girls team have won
matches. The girls are also through to the semi finals of the League
Knockout Cup. The Boys Team still have league matches coming soon but
played fantastically at the Laverstock Football Festival, going on to
win overall in the 9 – 11 competition. Well done boys!
Netball
In primary schools
'High Fives' is played to enable the children to benefit from a rotating
squad to allow them to experience all positions on the pitch. This
club runs through the autumn and spring terms.
Congratulations to our squad this year who have remained undefeated in
every match of their league and won the Salisbury District league.
Despite the rain and hail at the Laverstock tournament this year - our
team still shone!
Judo
We are very proud to announce
that Winterslow School won the 2008 Inter-School Competition in July
2008. The team met at Gomeldon Primary School where both teams fought
very well with a great deal of pride, spirit and sportsmanship.
Winterslow were the victorious team with a clear majority of winning
bouts. The trophy was collected by the captain, Toby on behalf of
the team and the school.
Mini-marathon
Our pupils performed
magnificently in the mini marathon which took place this year
at Laverstock. This is a major local competition involving
many teams from the Salisbury and district area and each race is
contested by several hundred athletes. All of our children showed tremendous
character and determination in completing a very demanding course and we
are extremely proud of them.
Tag rugby
Winterslow had a good representation from
our Years 5 & 6 at the tournament in March.
The teams had a really good day and won two of their games in Round 1.
Athletics
The
Salisbury Area Athletics is a very popular annual event which has a good
representation from Winterslow school. Last years June event once again
saw eager participation from Winterslow with good performances in many areas.
We are looking forward to competing again this year.
Kwik cricket
Well done to our Kwik Cricket
team, they won in each round of the and succeeded in being
awarded first place in the Salisbury Tournament.
Swimming
Winterslow school is fortunate to have its
own outdoor swimming pool. Swimming lessons for the whole school
take place during terms 5 and 6. our swimming teacher is also happy to
help the keen brownies and cubs in being awarded with their swimming
badges.
Orienteering
Woodpecker class successfully took part in
this tournament at St Edmunds, with 5 other schools. The A team were
placed 2nd overall and the B team came away with the winning trophy and
individual medals.
Basketball
When Winterslow team played at the local
schools festival at St Edmunds school, the children as ever
were great ambassadors for our school and played really well, reaching
the finals and came second.
Hockey
Winterslow school take part in
the Hockey Festival which takes place on the astro turf in
Salisbury during the autumn term.
Wake & Shake
Winterslow school was one of
the first schools in the country to take part in the wake and shake
