The Friends Of Winterslow School |
Supporting the School all the Way! |

What Do We Do?
|
There is a thriving, energetic ‘Friends’ association at our school. ‘The
Friends of Winterslow School’ was established in April 1997 to replace
the former Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Further information about
the ‘Friends’ can be obtained from the secretary, via the school office.
We arrange fundraising events throughout the year, and we try to make
the events as enjoyable as we can whilst trying to raise as much money
as possible. Some of the events are not fundraising but just for
enjoyment, for example the children's disco.
The money raised in recent years has bought many extra items and
facilities, which the school would otherwise not have been able to
afford. These include new computer equipment, additional reading scheme
and library books, ‘Early Years’ and other classroom equipment, and
benches and flower tubs for the playground. The Friends have also
contributed towards building improvements and extensions to paved areas
outside some classrooms, as well as to the Millennium garden project.
The changing rooms underwent dramatic transformation last year as a band
of friends united to bring them into the 21st century! This was a
mammoth project and the results are amazing as you can see from the
photos below. The main focus for 2007 was to improve the school
toilets area, this huge project is now completed and the school
environment has greatly benefited from this great improvement.
The main focus for 2008/09 has been to help
the school create and stock a new library
area for the children to enjoy and share in the love of books.
The new Play Trail was installed just
before the summer holidays so the year 6 children were able to benefit
from its use before they moved onto secondary schools. Mary
parents and family helpers joined in the mammoth preparation of this
area to allow this project to go ahead. This is now enjoyed by the
children on a daily basis.
