We have vacancies for four Foundation Governors
The Governing Body at Winterslow School currently has vacancies for four Foundation Governors. To qualify under the category of Foundation Governor, you would need to be part of one of the following denominations:
Communicant member of the Church of England
Based on information supplied from the Diocese of Salisbury
Becoming a school governor is an interesting, challenging and very rewarding role. There are many benefits in becoming a governor including:
Developing skills which employers value
Giving something back to your community
Making a positive difference to childrens’ futures
Experiencing strategic board level work
Learning how to appropriately challenge and support an organisation.
As a governor in a Wiltshire school you will receive comprehensive training from the School Governance team.In addition, the Diocese provides training and support for its Foundation Governors.
The responsibilities of a Foundation Governor are the same of those of other Governors, but in addition, Foundation Governors are the 'formal Christian presence' on the Governing Body; they uphold the religious Trust Deed of the school. The key function of Foundation Governors is to ‘explore, with their partners on the Governing Body, ways in which the Church’s role in the school may be more fully and positively implemented’.
What kind of people are Governors?
It’s a common misconception that all Governors are ‘professionals’. Although Governing Boards do find it helpful to have governors with skills in particular areas, most members are ‘ordinary’ members of the public. The Governing Board at Winterslow CE Primary School are looking for people who:
Get on with other people
Are open to new ideas and ready to learn
Are prepared to work as part of a team
Have some spare time, especially in the evenings and weekends, to attend meetings or read papers
Want to put something into their local community.
