British Values & Protected Characteristics

British Values at Winterslow

At Winterslow, it is the responsibility of everyone in the school community to ensure our children are knowledgeable global citizens who have the power to sparkle as change makers of the future.

The Department for Education states that there is a need:

To create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

As a distinctively Christian school, our Christian values synchronise with the teaching of British Values with a core vision of giving children the skills and attributes to contribute positively to modern Britain.

Protected Characteristics at Winterslow

In the Equality Act 2010, nine characteristics were identified as 'protected characteristics'. These are the characteristics where evidence shows there is still significant discrimination in employment, provision of goods and services and access to services such as education and health.
