Winterslow School is very proud of its’ sporting achievements. Each year, we take part in many sporting fixtures as well as having qualified instructors visiting the school.

Selection Process at Winterslow Primary School

Sports leader is responsible for picking teams and representatives for the school in consultation with the class teacher.

Competition (for example an event with county finals) be our best team with our strongest players will be chosen to represent the school. When we can we will take a second team of keen but possibly less able players.

Events or festivals, we will take enthusiastic children for an experience that will promote sport and give them opportunities.

If children play a sport outside of school we will try our best to let them represent the school in their chosen sport but cannot always guarantee this.

By the end of Year 6 all children will have been given the opportunity to represent the school.

Football is a strong feature at Winterslow. This year the 3 & 4 team came second overall after some outstanding performances at the annual festival held at the Laverstock schools. We also have Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching coaches support us in the delivery of our PE with a key focus on developing football.

In primary schools ‘High Fives’ is played to enable the children to benefit from a rotating squad to allow them to experience all positions on the pitch. Over the last few years, Winterslow have won and finished runners up in the cluster and district competitions, which in turn have qualified us for the Wiltshire county finals. We are very proud of our achievements in netball and we also take part in the local primary schools netball league.

We are very fortunate to have a professional coach visit our school each week to offer pupils the opportunity to participate in Judo classes. The team has a history of success in local school competitions and many of our pupils participate in optional extra sessions as part of the Wiltshire Judo Academy, which prepares them for representing Wiltshire at youth level.

Our pupils perform magnificently in the mini marathon each year at Laverstock. This is a major local competition involving many teams from the Salisbury and district area and each race is contested by several hundred athletes. All of our children show tremendous character and determination in completing a very demanding course each year.Last year our school were awarded numerous medals and achievements by winning in and coming runners up in both the under 9’s and under 11’s competitions.
