    Thought for the Week
    Monday 13th January 2020

There was once a farm, which had been in a family for generations. Eventually, the property was sold and a neighbour bought it. One day, the new owners were walking through a field when they noticed a strange rock sticking up out of the soil. After washing it, they took it to a jeweller where it was confirmed that the ‘old stone’ was, in fact, a large, uncut emerald - a priceless jewel!

The gemstone had been in the field for hundreds of years. The previous owners had overlooked it, because it looked like an ordinary rock.

When we ‘discover’ something, we are really finding something that already exists even though we were unaware of it. Something may look ordinary, but is in fact unique and special.

Who or what do we walk past and overlook?
What parts of ourselves (the treasure within us) could be uncovered if we delve further?
Where can we inspire others to seek out the best in themselves?

Christians are advised to keep searching for God’s will for their lives, helping them to uncover what is right under their noses, but that has not been recognised.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.
    Romans 12:2

When you are living the best version of yourself, you inspire others to live the best versions of themselves. Steve Maraboli

    Shanghai host school visit

Last week, we were very lucky to have teachers from Shanghai, Ms Wang and Ms Lingyi, come to visit us. We had an amazing day, celebrating what we do well and sharing and collaborating ideas.

Upon arrival, our visitors were welcomed by Mrs Bone and we exchanged gifts. They liked the gem captain badges and our school T-shirts and we love the Chinese friendship knot they gave us, which is now hanging in reception. Our visitors had the opportunity to observe how we teach maths in all our classes, before they taught a maths lesson to Year 4 in front of our teaching staff. In the afternoon Ms Wang and Ms Lyngyi experienced Mrs Bone lead Super Star worship. They ended the day with parents at the Woodpecker’s cake sale, where they LOVED the coffee cake and rainbow cakes, and went home with cake keyring souvenirs.

It was fantastic to have the teachers come to visit us, they were very impressed by all the children, in particular their ability to reason and articulate their ideas. Both children and staff were able to benefit from having them to stay, as many teachers were able to come and watch their lesson. The Shanghai teachers also commented on how kind all our staff were and they were amazed by our displays.

Mrs Hill will continue to use what she has learned from the Shanghai exchange programme to help expand the continued teacher professional development at our school. We are very proud of the work and progress that all the teachers and children have made over the last couple of years towards Teaching for Maths Mastery.

  • Woodpecker Roman Day

    Tue 13 Nov 2018

Woodpecker class have been having an amazing day celebrating all things Roman. First thing we practised marching and getting into battle formation. We found that the ‘tortuga’ was particularly strong in defending against the Celts. We learned some Latin commands such as ‘sinister’ ‘dexter’ and ‘accelera.’

Woodpeckers are very creative and great at problem solving. After all that marching we got a bit grubby and sweaty so we needed a Roman Bath, but how do you get water from the mountains to the city? The Woodpeckers were challenged to make a Roman Aquaduct in small teams. Can they get their marbles to travel from one side of the table to the other?

Later on today we will be having a Roman scavenger hunt and we will end the day with a Roman banquet. What a busy day!!
