Enrichment- our Sparkle!

Enrichment- this is how we Sparkle!

The Winterslow experience goes beyond our engaging and ambitious curriculum to ensure the children not only benefit from the best teaching and learning but have access to plenty of opportunities to 'sparkle', exploring, developing and celebrating their experiences, interests and talents.

Music

Music is integral to our curriculum offer and we draw on the expertise of staff to further develop our curriculum offer. We have whole class singing lessons in Key Stage One, whole class recorder and ukulele in Key Stage Two. We also provides the opportunity for children to access peripatetic lessons offering as wide a range as possible to our pupils.

Our vision for our pupils is 'if there is an instrument they want to learn, we will find a teacher!'

We currently offer: drums, guitar, piano, ukulele, trumpet, flute and recorders.

We host a musical soiree each year for our musicians to showcase their musical skills to an audience.

Our 'sparklers' choir runs throughout the year. Each year they learn and perform the Salisbury 'song for Christmas' which is played on the radio. We are currently in our second year of learning the songs for 'Young Voices' and will be taking the choir to London again for this incredible experience! Young Voices

Performances

Performing for an audience is an amazing experience and really supports children's personal development. We offer many opportunities for children to perform for others throughout their school journey.

Our Reception children perform the nativity tableau as part of our Christmas service. Parents of our Reception children are invited to this service to see their children create the nativity scene.

Year One and Year Two perform our Christmas nativity play. Year One form the choir and Year Two are our acting roles.

Year Four perform our Spring production and this is selected each year by the children. We have had 'Groovy Greek Gods', Oliver Twist and many more!

Year Six perform our end of your pantomime. This is a fantastic celebration of the children's journey through the school and a real chance to shine!

We also host a 'performance poetry' celebration each year. Children from Reception to Year Six are invited to learn a poem at home and perform this to their class. A representative from each class is selected and we share these performances as a whole school celebration assembly.

Trips and Visits

We are extremely lucky to be able to have a wealth of opportunities on our doorstep here at Winterslow. We maximise the experiences our locality offers.

Roche Court: This amazing sculpture park in Winterslow inspires much of our Artists curriculum. We regularly visit the gardens and the staff are incredibly supportive of our learning.

Pump house bakery: We visit the pump house (not only for delicious treats) but this amazing little bakery supports our work on sustainability.

Rocketship bookshop: we visit the bookshop to select new texts for our class libraries. The staff are passionate and knowledgeable and we really benefit from this local link.

Lockerley estate: we visit the estate to learn about their vision and support the planting and care of the land.

Salisbury Museum: Owain from the museum supports us both in school and on visits to the museum. The children greatly benefit from his knowledge and experience which brings our Historians learning to life!
