Being Geographers and Historians underpins the themes of our sparkly curriculum. We immerse our children into different learning experiences, providing a balance of knowledge and skill progression in a unique way.
As historians we use our skills in research and data analysis to ask and answer questions about past events, explore and anaylise primary and secondary sources and make links to the past.
The children’s historical knowledge will build throughout their time at Winterslow school to enable the children to become historians. We carefully follow the National Curriculum which ensures the children have the opportunity to study many different historical eras, Mayan, Ancient Egyptians, Ancient Greeks, The Stone Age and The Romans to name a few! Careful consideration has been taken when planning our unique curriculum to ensure that where possible children approach their history units in chronological order and reflect on where each period fits on the school timeline. Making links and connections between time periods are planned for and discussed with the children to endure depth of learning and understanding.
Our children say, 'We have to use our detective skills to find clues about the past using different sources to help us learn.'
We are skilled geographers who study the Earth and human society to help us to become courageous advocates for a more sustainable future. While using our skills to anaylse data and make comparisons we develope a better understaning of our world. As couageous advocates, we spend term term looking closely at the sustainable development goals, we believe that every child havs the ability to reshape the future. Our children are skilled explorers and spend time developing thier feildwork and compass skills.
Our children say 'We enjoy going on welly walks and learning new map skills'.
