We are extremely lucky at Winterslow to have an on site heated swimming pool which we use for swimming lessons for all year groups between May and October each year.
We have on site changing chalets designed and fund raised by our fantastic FOWs. Families of our school community are also able to use the swimming pool outside of school hours following membership and training.
At Winterslow, we use the sports premium to help fund the professional development and training available to train our staff to support high quality swimming and water safety lessons for the pupils. The premium is also used to provide additional top-up swimming lessons to pupils who have not been able to meet the national curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety after the delivery of core swimming and water safety lessons. At the end of key stage 2 all pupils at Winterslow are expected to be able to swim confidently and know how to be safe in and around water.
We at Winterslow are required to publish information on the percentage of their pupils in year 6 who met each of the 3 swimming and water safety national curriculum requirements.
Meeting national curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety.
What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres?
N.B. Even though your pupils may swim in another year please report on their attainment on leaving
primary school at the end of the summer term 2020.
What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]?
What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations?
Schools can choose to use the Primary PE and Sport Premium to provide additional provision for swimming but this must be for activity over and above the national curriculum requirements. Have you used it in this way?
