Emergency Closures

SEVERE WEATHER PROCEDURES

In severe weather the school will either open as normal, close for the day or close early.

Open as Normal

The school will open as normal provided that either the Headteacher, or Deputy Head Teacher and a minimum complement of staff can be on the premises by 8.30 a.m. and that there are no other problems.

Complete Closure

If weather conditions are severe the school will be closed for the day.

Close Early

If the weather deteriorates during the school day, parents will be informed that they may collect their children early. Please ensure emergency contact information is up to date at school.

HOW WILL PARENTS BE ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT DECISION THE SCHOOL HAS MADE IN THE CASE OF SEVERE WEATHER?

  1. At times of severe weather, when a number of schools may be closed, Spire FM (on 102 FM) will issue regular bulletins of such information.  I therefore ask parents to listen to these bulletins.

  1. We will attempt to upload information onto our website www.winterslow.wilts.sch.uk.

  1. A notice will be posted in ‘Central Stores’ (Winterslow Village Shop & Post Office).

I assure you every effort will be made to keep the school open in bad weather but, as I am sure you will appreciate, pupil and staff safety must be our priority in severe conditions.

Icy Conditions

In icy conditions the path inside the school gates will be gritted and access to school for all will be via the side blue door to the right of the gate leading into the main playground. The playground will be out of bounds during icy conditions. Please ensure you take care at all times and bear in mind the council do not grit the pathways outside the school gates.

Home Learning

If the school is closed, please visit your child's class page for home learning activities.
